UCS Healthcare is a CARF-accredited, non-profit health care organization based in Des Moines, Iowa with additional offices in Knoxville and Ankeny. UCS offers a variety of health care services including outpatient substance use disorder counseling in individual and group settings, mental health therapy and psychiatric services, medication assisted treatment (MAT) for opiate and alcohol addiction and medical care.

We are always looking for interns in the medical, substance use disorder, psychiatric and mental health fields as well as flexible and part-time (PRN) employees for a variety of positions such as CNA’s, LPN’s, RN’s, Pharmacists, and Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) Technicians.

UCS Healthcare is seeking a part-time/PRN Medication Assisted Treatment Technician in our clinic. Specific shifts we need to fill are:

  • Every other Monday and Thursday, part-time PRN
  • PRN shifts daily from 6:00 a.m - 2:00 p.m.

This position reports to the Nurse Supervisor. Our clinic is open Monday - Saturday.

FUNCTION: Adhere to the goals and objectives of the program, provide assistance to other staff members, following detailed instructions and under standard procedures.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Includes but is not limited to:

  1. Collect urine specimens in a respectful manner.
  2.  Monitor all drug test by observing samples being provided via same sex staff.
  3.  Document obtaining each sample provided and have client sign and date the security seal.
  4.  Contact program supervisor immediately should a conflict arise regarding UA process
  5.  Maintain high standards of ethical and professional conduct and adheres to Agency policies and procedures.
  6. Attend and participate in meetings to integrate activities, communicate issues, obtain approvals, resolve problems and maintain specific level of knowledge pertaining to new developments, requirements and urinalysis procedures.
  7. Maintain work area in a clean and orderly condition.  Ensure safe, confidential conditions within area of responsibility.
  8. Perform Breathalyzer testing, understanding results.
  9. Order all urinalysis and Breathalyzer supplies in a timely manner.
  10. Ensure all results are documented correctly in Methasoft.
  11. Disperse urinalysis paper results to each counselor in a timely manner.
  12. Perform other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:  High School diploma or GED.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS:  Experience in a residential treatment unit or halfway house obtaining urinalysis and Breathalyzer testing would be helpful but is not necessary.

Must excel in a team environment and must adhere to agency policies and procedures.

UCS Healthcare is currently seeking a qualified LPN or RN candidate to work part-time or on an as-needed basis. A specific shift we need to fill is every other Saturday from 6:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.

This position reports to the Supervising Nurse. In this role, the candidate must be able to adhere to the goals and objectives of the program in relation to the patients and the patients' medical care. Essential duties of the position include but are not limited to:

  1. Perform nursing assessments on all new admissions or readmission, while RN or physician is in the proximate area, if not already licensed as a RN.
  2. Follow Federal, State of Iowa, and agency policies on all documentation and treatment planning.
  3. Responsible for reviewing patient’s prescriptions and OTC medications to ensure they are properly prescribed and to assess whether client is aware of possible adverse reactions.
  4. Count client medications and initiate call backs to monitor for diversion or abuse/misuse.
  5. Ensure Suboxone client numbers remain in parameters, make all Suboxone intake and follow up appointments, taking all calls related to Suboxone.
  6. Answer all phone calls relating to nursing/medical questions and make appropriate referrals.
  7. Ensure all prescriptions are called in to correct pharmacy in a timely manner.
  8. Present lectures on health issues on an on-going basis.
  9. Ensure that medical inventories are completed in a timely basis as required.
  10. Perform, interpret, record, and report on-site tuberculosis tests.
  11. Perform venipuncture for syphilis testing.
  12. Carry out all physician orders including telephone orders.
  13. Record and report all observed symptoms and changes in the patient’s condition to the interdisciplinary team members and medical director if necessary.
  14. Communicate patient status through legible and precise documentation.
  15. Make appropriate health referrals whenever necessary.
  16. Dispense medication as prepared by the pharmacist and record dosages with absolute accuracy.
  17. Ensure coverage for daily late dosing.
  18. Review eight point criteria for take home medications.
  19. Make appropriate request to Medical Director when medication dosage change is indicated by COWS and carry out those orders in an accurate and timely manner.
  20. Perform daily nursing assessments on patients involved in the detoxification program.
  21. Assist the Medical Director with histories and physicals whenever necessary while RN or physician is in approximate area, if not already licensed as a RN.
  22. Obtain urine specimens according to agency policy and federal regulation and make appropriate report of results, including HCG urine screens.
  23. Perform all functions of guest dosing.
  24. Provide first-aid to patients and staff as needed and make appropriate referrals as needed.
  25. Provide technical assistance to the staff in understanding a patient’s medical problems.
  26. Attend weekly staffing, QA and other designated meetings when requested.
  27. Assist in monitoring patient activities while on center property.
  28. Obtain pre-authorization from insurance company to ensure client’s benefits, and perform follow-up as required.
  29. Maintain licensure as required and attend seminars, workshops, lectures, etc. to maintain professional growth.
  30. Assist in Franklin Family Practice, United Community Services' on-site family medical practice, as needed.
  31. Keep the Executive Director informed of changes that occur in clinical and medical matters.

Qualified candidates will be currently licensed in the State of Iowa as Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Nurse (RN). The person(s) in this position must excel in a team environment and must adhere to agency policies and procedures.
