Resources for families and friends

When a loved one or friend is battling addiction, it can take a toll on relationships as well as stress other areas of our lives. UCS Healthcare offers resources to assist those who are supporting someone in recovery.

NARCAN TRAINING

NARCAN (Naloxone) is a legal drug that can counteracts the effects of an opioid overdose. Narcan is available over the counter without a prescription. UCS Healthcare is offering this 30-minute training to our patients, their family and friends and our staff on the use of NARCAN. The next training sessions will be:

  • Wednesday, October 31 at 3:00 - 3:30 p.m. in room 4 at UCS Healthcare, 4908 Franklin Avenue, Des Moines

FAMILY SUPPORT GROUP

Family and friends supporting a person in recovery also need support. We offer a four-week family support group session on Tuesdays from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. at our Des Moines location at 4908 Franklin Avenue. This is a consecutive, four-week rolling program, but new participants may start at any time. The next four week session starts November 6. The group is open to anyone who is supporting a UCS Healthcare patient in recovery. There is no charge for this family group session, but we will ask you to sign in. We also provide walk-in, on-demand mental health care assessments for anyone seeking help at our Des Moines location. Walk-in mental health assessments are available Monday - Friday - 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Our walk-in assessments are administered by a dedicated team of licensed mental health therapists, ensuring quick, proper treatment for walk-in patients. Each patient has their individual needs and our team will help diagnose what options are best after the mental health assessment. Depending on the patient needs, visits may be scheduled for weekly sessions up to monthly or quarterly check-ins.
